Enable Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and DomainKeys

The fight against SPAM is something that we deal with every day here at Linuxweb. Sender Policy Framework (SPF) Records are just one more tool available to users to help get their mail authorized and able to send through networks.

Hotmail, AOL and gMail all use SPF Records in an attempt to help validate the sender of the email message. Using the combination of SPF Records and DomainKeys will help validate the domain sending the mail and should help get the message past the additional fraud screening operated by some larger ISPs.

If you are using external MX Records or routing your mail through another server, you must contact your system admin to enable SPF Records.  Enabling within cPanel can break your mail if it is not first setup with your external mail server.

By default, all new hosting accounts at Linuxweb have SPF and DomainKeys enabled.

To Enable Domain Keys

  1. Log into cPanel
  2. Click Email Authentication
  3. Click ENABLE beside the Domain Keys section
  4. Click the Go Back link
  5. Verify that the Status now says that it is Active and Enabled

If you are running your own DNS our routing your DNS through another location you will need to provide the output of the SPF raw records to your DNS admin so that they can add the appropriate flags to your domain in their system.
